I FEEL LIKE A STUFFED TURKEY!

Thanksgiving was wonderful! We went to Dyke's brother's house and had a delicious meal and we were all miserable afterwards from eating so dang much! It was fun to all get together again! The tryptophen kicked in as usual!

ON FRIDAY, I WAS UP AND GONE BEFORE THE SUN WOKE THE PLANET...I HAULED A TRAILER TO FT. WORTH TO GO LOOK AT A HORSE. 6 HOURS OF DRIVING FOR A 20 MINUTE LOOK...IT WASN'T THE HORSE THAT I AM SUPOSSED TO HAVE.

I've been getting ready for the Happy Hour/Jewelry Trunk Show out at The Waggoner Ranch next Sunday. Joline has been so gracious to extend the invite for another great afternoon with friends! It was a lot of fun last year, so I am really looking forward to it! I have some new jewelry designs and have added more western gift items.

Zack has been getting up at 5:30am to go duck hunting at the tank. A cold front has hit, so it's very cold, windy and rainy...perfect, he says, for hunting ducks. He is very determined to get a duck with his custom made longbow.

He doesn't look like he's having fun.................. DEFINITELY NOT my kind of fun!

"Hurry up, Mom...Iam starved!!!!

Cleaning ducks for breakfast!

The yellow stuff on the right is the duck's "craw". Zack opened the craw and said, "I bet you don't know where this duck has been by looking inside his craw?"

Thinking deeply, trying to muster up all of the duck anatomy trivia that I have come to possess over the 21 years that I have been with these sort of people...I answered with a pathetic..."I dunno, where?"

"The river, of course!" he shot back at me. "See all of this sand inside the craw?" He mushed it with his thumb and I could hear the gritiness of the grains. Ducks need to injest small pebbles and sand so that the seeds and all the other stuff that they eat, can get ground up before digestion."

"Hmmmm, are you sure?" I questioned.

"Mother...how long have I been duck hunting? he looked at me with an anoyed posture.

"Uhhhh...basically your whole life?

"Exactly - I know all there is to know about ducks! Now, where is the lighter so I can go get the grill hot and get these duck breasts grilling for my breakfast?

Mmmmmmm....grilled green-wing teal and a shoveler hen for Sunday breakfast!

Being a big senior, Jake has only been home long enough to raid the cupboards, create a higher laundry pile in the washroom and maybe, if I am lucky, do a few chores around the place. Certainly not willing to have his picture taken for the blog, so I'll have to work harder at trying to sneak a picture! He's off with Zack and Penny today, trying to find a wounded deer for some guy. It's cold, rainy and gusty! BLECH! Here they are recounting the saga of the wounded deer to their papa. At least Penny was able to track it down and the boys made a few "bucks" in return.

Dyke's hardly been here either - deer season, Thanksgiving and outlaws have kept him off the farm tracking people down, answering calls, and highspeed chases in the night. When he is home for an hour or two, he eats and then wallows on his couch, until the next call comes in.

I checked on the cows and got some good pics of the longhorns. Hopefully a rancher in East Texas will buy them...

A COWGIRL CAN NEVER HAVE TOO MANY BOOTS!

I CONTINUE TO AMASS COWBOY BOOTS - I THINK I NEED ANOTHER CUSTOM MADE BOOT RACK, HUNNY.....

Dyke's partner, Matt, blessed me with 7 gorgeous, fat, fluffy chickens! 5 hens and 2 roosters. I have been extremely diligent in locking them in the henhouse at night. They are just about laying age (5 weeks), so hopefully I'll start getting some fresh eggs again...Walmart just doesn't have eggs that compare!

YUP - HE'S A SENIOR!

Last night was Senior Night at the football game. All of the seniors and their parents walked out on the field and were introduced to the crowd. It was a very proud moment, but also a sad one. The next chapter of Jake's life will begin before we are really ready for it, as parents. We hope in our hearts that we've done our job, as parents, the best that we could...teaching good decision making, diverting peer pressure, never settling for anything less than your best, as well as creating and reaching goals that will help throughout a lifetime.

This parenting thing is a strange animal...you can't take a course on it, you don't have to pass an exam. You do what you know and hopefully your own parents did their best job. As a employee of public school systems for 17 years, I have noticed a severe increase in the lack of good parenting across the board. It's amazing what parents today will allow their young children to be exposed to... it's in the news, it's in your town, and it's across the globe...I truly believe that if more parents would start stepping up to the plate to do their job in a more positive, successful way, the youth of today would possess the skills they need to be more successful and raise more successful Americans to better this world. There...I said it...I don't get on my soapbox often, but things that I see and hear in the schools today would astonish you.
HOMECOMING 2009

It was sad to realize that Jake's high school football career will be over after the next game. Their season has not been a good one, and for the seniors, that will not be a good memory.

MOUNT AND SHOOT...LAS TRES AMIGAS!

Well, it's nearly been a whole month of Sundays since I have posted...where's the summer? I miss the summer! These days, the daylight hours are growing shorter and the air has that Fall crispness. We've had miraculous drenching rains and I am so very thankful. It is certain that Fall is here.
Last weekend, "LAS TRES AMIGAS" - two friends and I, opened our western booth at the Gulf Coast Mounted Shooters event out at our county arena. It was a weekend that I will not forget. I had my turquoise jewelry, Old World Santas, beaded soap dispensers/crosses, some western clothing and gifts. Susie sold her beautiful gourds, hand tooled/stitched leather canteens, flasks, and mouse pads. Luanne sold fabulous handmade silver and gold wire wrapped bracelets, amazing handmade western pillows and old editions of Cowboys & Indians magazines. It was a great booth and had such a wide variety of goodies! Despite the loud gunfire and smell of black powder (which we quickly acclimated to), we had so much dang fun and even made a bit of cash along the way!

The whole mounted shooting thing is pretty cool! We were ready to sign up and hit the road with the shooters (or at least I was)! The World competition was being held in Amarillo the following weekend, so this was the last of the National competitions. There were riders from Tennessee, Florida, California, Texas, and all other areas of our great nation. There were families, moms and daughters, retired doctors, lawyers, accountants, nurses, young and old... a really neat "hobby". They dress in period clothing and the outfits were really cool! Each shooter had 2 pistols harnessed/holstered - mostly with shoulder/chest holsters. The guns were beautiful and heavier than I thought! I don't know how they ride at a full gallop and shoot! There was only black powder in the guns, so the heat and flash of the powder burning was what popped the balloons...no projectile.

On Thursday, the big rigs starting rolling in...HUGE 18 wheeler cabs pulling 25 foot horse trailers with full dressing quarters, showers, A/C and the works! It was an eye opening experience! The people were so very friendly and glad to be there and their horses were phenominal! Ranging in price from 5,000-30,000, these steeds didn't flinch a muscle when that black powder exploded near their head/neck

Here are some pictures that my friend Susie took - she should work for National Geographic - her photography is FABULOUS!

THIS GUY WAS THE PREACHER FOR THE SUNDAY SERVICE - RANDY GUNN.

SATURDAY MORNING, WE HAD A CHUCK WAGON BREAKFAST! IT WAS DELICIOUS!

WHAT AN AWESOME WEEKEND! I WAS SAD TO BREAK CAMP AND HEAD HOME!

TODAY (10-26) IS MY DAD'S 78th BIRTHDAY!!!! HAPPY, HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DAD! I LOVE YOU AND I WISH I COULD BE HOME TO CELEBRATE WITH YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!
